eBay - The Importance of the Colours used in Listings

A three part article on the Psychology of colour!

Part 1

I have spent years online and love to see how people use different techniques to sell their products and services. I love the psychological impact of websites to the visitor (I also run a small online consultancy too!).

There are lots of different styles of websites and eBay listings - some are very showy with over the top marketing copy, flashy photos and extremes in colour schemes, some adopt a "minimalist" approach with overly subdued hues, small fonts, fewer images and less, but more descriptive words.

One of the most important factors though are the colours that are used on the listing, and the effect they have on the potential buyer is massive - I also know from personal experience that the right choice of colours are VITAL.

When I developed a business called black and white marketing (http://blackwhite.uk.com), I originally designed the site in pure black and white colour scheme (seemed to make sense to me!) - unfortunately it was hated by visitors! I added a touch of colour and suddenly people liked the site, stayed longer and took advantage of the offers!

So, I have discovered that the most important first-impression, psychological factor impacting website viewers is COLOUR. The same is true of eBay listings.
